Maya was brought up in the Far East on the tropical island of Bali, which lies on the volcanic belt of the world with more than three hundred volcanos rising from the sea. You can also find exotic birds of paradise and giant Komodo dragons on other islands in the Indonesian Archipelago.
She studied social anthropology at the London School of Economics and ethnographic film making at Beaconsfield National Film and Television School. Maya is a publisher, journalist and photographer who follows in the footsteps of the humanist photographers. She has taken photos and videos of the legendary Balinese dancers and a disappearing ancient civilisation.
Maya publishes poetry by David Malin, an outstanding poet who followed in the footsteps of the great Romantic Poets.David’s poems include London Armageddon and Hymn to Britain and magical clowns by outstanding artist, Corinne Huberman.
Maya is currently writing the story of her family and their remarkable role in the peace negotiations that led to the end of WW2; this is the thrilling story of love, power, dynasties and courage in which she spans different continents and historical periods.
Maya is the editor-founder of Outside Voices. She is the only child of Angela Hobart, to whom the Outside Voices project is dedicated.
Maya is one of the trustees of the Centro Incontri Umani Ascona and she was the head of media for the Sutasoma Trust.
